In 2008, a Tyson plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee and the workers union agreed on a contract that eliminated Labor Day as a paid day off and made Eid al-Fitr, the last day of Ramadan, a paid day off. This came about because the plant had 250 Somalian workers who were Muslims. The change came under heavy attack and Labor Day was reinstated as a paid day off.
