Not all reindeer can fly. Only Santa's reindeer can fly. These reindeer are specially chosen because, after attending reindeer flying school, it is seen which reindeer have the spirit of love and laugher, wonder and adventure, and believe in the impossible when others might give up

These reindeer are then trained to use their unique and special gifts. They can fly by means of the most amazing scientific gadgetry. People assume that reindeer's antlers are just for show, or for males to assert their dominance over other males. This actually may not be the case. Some professors have a theory that antlers have a special antlerodynamic function which acts aerodynamically like the lift function on the tip of the wings of the Concorde aircraft when they still flew. This special function only comes into effect when reindeer fly at very high speeds.

Other people have theorised that the antlers allow reindeer to open up vortexes in the space-time continuum, allowing them to travel from one point on Earth to another point in a split-second.

Some have proposed that reindeer cannot fly, as such. Having no aerodynamic lifting surfaces such as wings, flight is not possible. The reindeer, more correctly, levitate. Nobody is quite sure how they levitate or how they are able to achieve thrust but it has been proposed that it may have something to do with the egg nog that they drink before their annual run.

Leaving out carrots (or even apples) for reindeer is a vital step in helping the reindeer to maintain their energy for this task, however they aachieve it.

Or ... quite simply ... there is no explanation for how Santa Claus' reindeer can fly other than magic.
