Veterans Day is observed on November 11 to honor all those, dead and alive, who served in the US armed forces in times of peace and in times of war.

The reason it's on November 11 is that was the date in 1918 of the armistice ending World War I. Some parts of the world still call it Armistice Day. The name was changed to Veterans Day in the U. S. after World War II.
