I think because early protestants like the colonist didn't celebrate Christmas, unlike the Catholic German mercenaries on the other side of the Delaware, who were drinking and celebrating heartily.
To the best of my knowledge, Protestants did not and some may still not, observe December 25th as the actual historic birth-date of Christ, so it was just another day for them, and an excellent time to attack a hung over and unwary enemy.
Trenton was the first battle Washington won. It was much needed because winning against the British seemed an impossible task.
nobody
December 1777
It lasted 2 days.
The British won the Treton Battle, also known as the Battle of Trenton, which took place on December 26, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. However, it was actually the American colonists, led by General George Washington, who achieved a surprise victory over the Hessian forces stationed in Trenton, New Jersey. This victory was significant for boosting American morale and reinvigorating the revolutionary cause.
