In Germany, 6th of December is a very important day for children. On the evening of 5th December, children leave outside a boot or shoe outside their bedroom door, hoping that Saint Nicholas will fill it with presents. Also, Saint Nick was a bishop who lived in the 4th century. He will only fill your shoe with presents if you have been good. For bad children, Saint Nick has a helper, Knecht Ruprecht. Instead of presents- Ruprecht fills the shoes with dry branches. (Ps- In the UK kids hang out stockings. If you have been good he will fill up with presents- if you've been bad you'll get a lump of coal.
