I'm not sure about boys, but as a girl. I wanted something that was special and i would remember forever. My dad bought me some really lovely earrings, perfume, and an expensive handmade pen.
I loved them! and I'll remember them forever.
I'd suggest a beautiful piece of jewellery (bracelet, bangle, ring, necklace, earrings) You could have it engraved.
Maybe a bottle of champagne and you can keep the cork as a memento. (i did on my 18th)
Something expensive that couldn't afford yourself: Ugg boots, GHD's, iPod, TV, Driving lessons, A car(you could go halves with your parents), A holiday (doesn't have to be abroad, could be in the UK)
Or something sentimental: photo album, homemade birthday cake, friendship bracelets, homemade birthday card.
