Chinese New Year is the most significant and important holiday to the Chinese people. It is recognized as a time to leg go of grudges and past mistakes and offenses. Red envelopes (hong2 bao1) are filled with money and given as gifts; commonly from elders onto the youth. Red is a good color to the Chinese because it is a symbol of wealth and is very auspicious. The color is often coupled with themes of happiness, wealth, and longevity. Red decorations and clothing are common. Over all it is a 15 day celebration including feasts of whole fish, pig, duck, or chicken and many other traditional dishes, and the lighting of fireworks to scare off evil spirits with their loud noise is also a very traditional practice.

And New Year couplets are pasted on doors. During the New Year, it is not uncommon to see Lanterns hung on trees in the streets, office buildings and doors of houses. And Chinese eat dumplings. Chinese Dumplings look like silver ingots. Legend has it that the more dumplings you eat during New Year celebration, more money you can make in the New Year.
