Usually on the right hand, ring finger. This is because, in many countries, the right hand is considered to be superior to the left. In days gone by, the right hand was used for eating while the left hand was used for wiping oneself after going to the toilet.

The reason is based on tradition stemming from the Romans. In Latin the word left means "sinister", considered negative. Where as the word right means "dexterity", considered good! So most of the Ukraine follow this perception. However there are other country's that follow this tradition. In the other hand mostly commonwealth nations will consider the right hand forth finger the proper ring finger.

If one were to observe most Ukrainian marriages, the rings are on the right hand 4th finger counting from the thumb finger.

I would recommend if you are to propose marriage and present an engagement ring to a Ukraine or Polish girl, follow safe tradition unless told otherwise. So, go for the right hand finger!
