I have been with my husband for 14 years and he rarely if ever buys anything for Valentines Day, anniversaries or birthdays. He doesn't expect gifts either and uses this an excuse not to buy anything. I'm not materialistic. I would rather have a card, a rose....something that says you thought about me on this special day. I still buy things for him on those days. After discussions, arguments, crying; nothing changed. It was only when someone else (another male) gave me a gift he started to take notice. Sometimes your spouse can take you for granted. Unfortunately, what is important to you is not as important to them. There is really nothing you can do.
