What is Halloween and how is it celebrated?

Some people in the U.S. don't celebrate Halloween though, for religious reasons.

Halloween is a holiday when children, and some adults and teenagers, dress up in costumes and go door to door asking their neighbours for candy by saying, "Trick or treat!" Many people throw parties, and some have costume contests in which everyone competes to see who has the "best" costume. It is usually celebrated at night, but some younger children start earlier, since small children probably shouldn't be out after dark.
