Diwali (or Divali) is known as the Festival of Lights, the triumph of light over darkness.
Another name for Diwali is the festival of lights. (Deepwali)
Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word Deepavali. Deepavali means Row of Lights. Hence Diwali is known as the festival of lights. The most popular legend states that it is celebrated in remembrance to the homecoming of Sri Ramchandra after 14 years of exile and his victory over the demon Ravana.
