Bescherung is a German tradition where gifts are exchanged on Christmas Eve. Families gather around the Christmas tree and exchange presents while singing carols. It is a time of joy, togetherness, and celebration during the holiday season.
If I understand your question correctly..... The German tradition is to put up the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Once that is done the presents are put under the Christmas tree. Children see the tree for the first time at "Bescherung" the gift giving on Christmas Eve. Not sure how many families still stick to the above tradition.

In most parts of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland Christmas presents are opened in the evening of December 24th ('Bescherung') and are brought by Christkind or Christchild (or alternatively by the Weihnachtsmann), who leaves the gifts but is never seen doing so. At midnight Germans taditionally visit Christmas Mass. December 25th and 26th are official holidays.
