Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem following the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE. It celebrates the miracle of the oil, where a small amount of oil, enough for one day, lasted eight days during the rededication. Traditions include lighting the menorah, playing dreidel, and eating foods fried in oil, such as latkes and sufganiyot. Hanukkah usually falls in late November to late December, depending on the Hebrew calendar.
