O Tannebaum! literally means O Fir Tree or Pine tree. in the original German translation it does not once mention Christmas or Christ. it has a sort of nature worship theme- deep in the woodland growing. There were a number of parodies that lightened up ( if that is the phrase) the Berlin Crisis of the early sixties- one went O Atom Bomb, O Atom Bomb, we"re glad you"re not exploding! ( Krushy had a big one in East Berlin)l.
