Traditionally a full eternity ring is given from a husband to his wife on the birth of their first child or on their first anniversary (whichever comes first). There is no rule to say an eternity ring CANNOT be used as an engagement ring but bear in mind the following; 1) Full eternity rings cannot be adjusted should the girl gain or lose weight at any point in her life. This is because stones go all the way around. Perhaps a half eternity ring would be better. 2) Once that critical birth of baby or first wedding anni comes along, what ring will be given then? Personally, my engagement ring is a triology ring (three stones representing past, present and future). It's gorgeous and meaningful because of the 3 stones.
