The church holiday- somewhat discredited by the Vatican, but still observed ( there is a church and school by this name in Jersey City) for St. Nicholas is December 6. This is, strictly speaking, not even in Advent (commences December 8) let alone the Christmas season, theologically. a Swiss Custon called the Klausjagen, which I accidentally found out about when in PS l7 -and odd reader story- the name means ( Klaus-Hunt) is a parade celebration of outsized hats resembling Bishop"s mitres on December 6. it honors St. Nicholas- but has nothing to do with Christmas or the popular idea of Santa Claus.
