alleluia is not said or sung
halllujah - Jeff Buckley?
The Alleluia.
In the Traditional Roman Rite the Alleluia is used on Sundays of Advent along with the Gradual, but if the Mass from the Sunday is used during the week the Alleluia is omitted. It is not omitted during Advent in the Divine Office.
Not sure what you mean by Easter Saturday, if you are referring to Holy Saturday: the Saturday before Easter, then that day is a day when you should be continuing the fast and abstinence from Good Friday, up until dark, when the Easter Vigil begins with the lighting of the Easter First, then the Exsultet is sung, and all those readings from the Old Testament that trace salvation history are read - nine in all, only then the lights come on in the Church, and the Gloria is sung for the first time since Lent began - Alleluia, Christ is risen. Then, after the homily the people coming into the Church are baptized and confirmed, and then the Mass continues as normal.
During Lent, the Gloria and the Alleluia are not said or sung during the Mass. This is because Lent is meant to be a solemn time where we reflect on our sinfulness and how we can better ourselves. Both the Gloria and the Alleluia are joyful prayers. The Gloria is said on Holy Thursday, and then both the Gloria and the Alleluia are reinstated in the Mass on Easter Sunday.
The joyful praise sung before the Gospel is called the “Alleluia” or “Hallelujah.” It is a celebratory acclamation that recognizes the presence of Christ in the proclamation of the Gospel.
It is sung just before the gospel reading, except during Lent, when it is not sung.
The word traditionally sung in church hymns to express praise and thanksgiving is "hallelujah."
The joyful praise sung before the Gospel is known as the Alleluia. It signifies joy and is a call to listen to the Gospel message with open hearts and minds. It is a proclamation of praise and thanksgiving for the Word of God.
