The ay of independence was supposed to be celebrate on the 2nd of July but during its 1st year celebration, the needed preparations did not materialize on the right date so it took place on July 4, 1777, in Philadelphia. The celebration was highlighted with ships in the harbor decked in the nation's colors. Cannons rained 13-gun salutes in honor of each state and parades and fireworks brought greater color and life to the festivity even more.
