Sure you can put a ring on any hand and on any finger. There are different meanings implied if you choose to, so make sure it's appropriate in your religion/country
The fourth finger of the left hand is tradtionally the 'ring finger' this the finger next to the pinkie on the left hand. Anyway, the ring finger is the finger between your pinkie and middle finger. If you are going to give someone a ring though, make sure you put it on their left hand, ring finger.
Wedding band first, then engagement ring. The wedding band should be worn closer to the heart, because it is more of a commitment. The engagement ring should not be worn at the ceremony or it can be worn on the right hand and put on after the wedding ring/band. & on the left hand on your ring finger. (next to pinkie)
I'm a Filipino Catholic, and when I got married both man and woman was told to put the wedding ring on their right fourth finger. The priest would say join your right hand, and then the blessing and putting of the ring followed.
