The first Kwanzaa Parade or Gwaride took place on December 26, 1977 in Los Angeles, California. It consisted of two motor driven vehicles. A Red double decker "London" Bus owned by former football Great Willie Davis who owned KACE Radio 103.1 FM in Los Angeles. The Bus was their signature vehicle. "Dee Dee" Davis the father of Willie Davis was the operator. The Second vehicle was a black 1977 Porsche with Red and Green stripes owned by Dr. Anyim Palmer, founder of Marcus Garvey School. Aminifu and RW Akile decorated the two vehicles on 43rd Pl at Leimert Park. They waited until 1:00 PM then they left winding through the city shouting Happy Kwanzaa. Akile was the coordinator and organizer of the event.
