Memorial Day was established to honor and remember the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, particularly during the Civil War. Veterans Day, on the other hand, is dedicated to recognizing and honoring all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, regardless of whether they were involved in combat. Both days serve as important reminders of the sacrifices made by military personnel for their country.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a national war memorial in Washington DC. It was established to honor the members of the US armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War and who died in service or are still unaccounted for.
In Fort Wayne, veterans are honored through various events and ceremonies, particularly on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, featuring parades and memorial services. Local organizations, such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), host activities to recognize their service and sacrifices. Additionally, the city maintains memorials and monuments dedicated to veterans, and community programs support veterans and their families throughout the year.
Verterans day was established to honor soldiers who fought in World War 1.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) first erected the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial cross in 1934 in honor of World War I veterans.
Armistice Day became an official federal holiday in the United States in 1938. It was established to honor the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to recognize all American veterans.
The idea for a memorial dedicated to Vietnam veterans originated from a group of veterans themselves, particularly inspired by the experiences of those who served in the Vietnam War and the lack of recognition they received. In 1979, Vietnam veteran Jan Scruggs spearheaded the initiative, advocating for a memorial to honor the sacrifices of fallen soldiers. His efforts led to the establishment of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which was designed by architect Maya Lin and officially dedicated in 1982.
There are any number of ways to honor our veterans. You can do it simply by placing a flag outside your home on national holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, etc. But you can also do it in a more personal way by visiting any of the many memorials to veterans around the country. Obviously, Washington, DC, has a large number of memorials honoring veterans, like the new WWll Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and one of the more famous, the Vietnam Memorial, also known as "The Wall." Finally, I personally think the best way to honor a veteran is to walk up to him or her and simply say, "Thank you for your service to our country." (and thanks for asking the question...)
