Generally, when you do a shower, you would put the mother's, or parent's if it is a couple's shower. This is so everyone knows who the shower is for since some people you invite may not be aware of what the baby will be named. If you would like to use the baby's name, you could word the invitation to say, "Jane Smith would like to invite you to a baby shower celebrating the arrival of her baby, Ashley Lynn."
There are many examples that once can use to find the appropriate wording for baby shower invitations. These includes sites such as Storkie, as well as baby shower blogs and forums.
Typically, the name(s) of the hostess(es) is included on a line that reads "Given with love by [names]". If there are too many names to fit on the baby shower invitation, then you can generalize it to "Given with love by friends" or "Given with love by family".
Both parent's names should be included on a baby shower invitation if the party is a couple's baby shower (sometimes called a coed baby shower). Otherwise, only include the mom's name. For examples of couple's baby shower invites, see related link below.
If the shower is a couple's baby shower, then the father's name should be included on the invitation. While not the norm, couple's or coed baby showers are gaining in popularity as today's dads are becoming more involved in raising their children than in past generations. For a couple's baby shower, male and female friends of the couple would be invited to attend. If the baby shower is only for the mother-to-be, then the father's name should not appear on the baby shower invitation. In this case, usually only female friends and relatives of the mommy-to-be would be invited.
The way to address a shower invitation to a married women would be you address them by their full married name. Example: Mrs. Kate Bolton.Another PerspectiveThe best way to address a shower invitation to any woman is to simply use her name. This is the twenty first century.
