Why did the Pilgrims kill the Indians on first Thanksgiving?

No record of the menu of that first harvest celebration exists. It is possible there was turkey available but more likely they had Grouse, duck, goose and swan. They would also have possibly had game meats like venison, rabbit and squirrel. Also, they most likely would have had seafood like cod and herring.

The Pilgrims did not kill the Indians on the first Thanksgiving, They celebrated with the Indians the great harvest that was provided. The feast lasted for 3 days and the Indians out numbered the Pilgrams. There were 90 Indians in all. It was a party with lots of food and games that all had played together. The Indians teaching the whites the new games and the whites teaching the Indians new games.

The REAL answer:

Because the Puritans believed anyone who did not believe the same as they did needed to be "Purified" and they needed to "purify" the lands ect ect so.. because the Native Americans would not conform to the same beliefs they were deemed "savage heathens" and either enslaved or slaughtered. (strong were enslaved and often shipped back to Britain, weak, women, and children were murdered). The Puritans declared a day of "thanksgiving" after every massacre (tribe by tribe) until George Washington declared that we should only set aside 1 day a year for Thanksgiving...and then Lincoln declared it a national holiday and the rest is history.

The only items that were recorded as having been eaten at the first Thanksgiving were fowl and venison. So the Pilgrims wouldn't have eaten ham. Neither would they have eaten jellied cranberries. They instead would have eaten any berries and fruits fresh. Nor would they have eaten mashed potatoes. Potatoes were a new food to them. Due to their European background, they would have been reluctant to eat the roots of a vegetable. At the time, vegetable roots were considered possible sources of indigestion and poisoning. And they wouldn't have eaten pumpkin pie with ice cream. Ice cream wasn't a known, popular dessert at that time. In fact, the Pilgrims wouldn't have had the means with which to make the dessert.
