Why do you celebrate Veterans Day?

To admire Veterans who served in the United States military, even if they were not in war, why admire the people who do not go to war? you ask. We admire them because they are taking time out of their life, to go serve our country.

It commemorates the armistice that took effect at 11AM on November 11 (11/11) 1918, ending the Great War (what we call today The First World War). In fact, in many places, it is not "Veterans Day" but "Remembrance Day" or "Armistice Day". Surprisingly, nations like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France and Belgium lost far more men in the First World War than in the Second World War, and the shock to many in Europe after 100 years of mostly peace left a scar far beyond the wounds on the battlefields.
