Jethro marks the last week of March in 1862 as his passage into manhood because it is a pivotal moment in his life, marked by significant personal loss and the harsh realities of war. During this time, he experiences the devastating impact of the Civil War on his family, particularly through the injury of his brother and the death of a close family friend. These events force Jethro to confront the complexities of adulthood, including responsibility, grief, and the harsh consequences of conflict, ultimately shaping his understanding of the world around him.
Jethro deemed March 1862 as the time he left his childhood behind because it was the month his brother Tom left to join the Union army in the Civil War, marking a significant shift in their family dynamics and responsibilities. This event forced Jethro to take on more adult roles and face the harsh realities of war and its impact on his family and community.
March 1862
The theme for Arcross Five Aprils is growing up. Theres another one but i cant rember it. Anways, Jethro thought to himself if anyone asked him 'When did your childhood end?'he would say March of 1862 because(SPOILER ALERT!) his dad had a heqart attack. Jethro was basicly the only farm hand left. So, he just had to get tough and grow up.
