to show that he is already ready in handling her daughter to the responsibilty of the man that she will be living for till their death. it's a traditional way or custom that the father will walk down her daughter in the aisle because he was the one who has raised her daughter and it is the right time to handle her daughter out of her responsibilty.
they walk down with there father
The brides hangs onto her father's arm (if the father can not attend or is deceased) then an uncle; good friend of the family or a brother can take the father's place. After the maid of honor and bridesmaids are down the aisle then the bride comes down the aisle slowly on her father's arm and her father leads her to the left of the groom at the altar where the minister or priest is standing.
If you want him to walk you down the aisle, go ahead. It is fine.
Since the father of the bride walks the bride down the aisle, who else would do it?
The bride walks down (or up) the central passage way not the Aisles (typically these flank the pews and are called the North and South Aisles)
The time when the bride walks up the aisle with her father and or her mother, or whom ever is giving her away, is called the Wedding Processional. Usually the bridesmaids walk up the aisle, followed by a flower girl and ring bearer...then the moment everyone has been waiting for...the bride and her father or parents.
The bride can do anything she wants as it is her special day and it is fine to have her father on the left and her brother on the right as they walk down the aisle. If you decide to do this then after the minister asks who gives this bride away the father will answer and he will turn to the left to be seated on the bride's side of the church and your brother should walk behind you after this and join your father.
Right side. The groom will be standing facing the father on his left. It is then common practice for the father to place the brides arm into the grooms arm ... 'passing the watch' so to speak, insuring that the bride will be well taken care of as her father did for all the years leading up to matrimony.
* The bride holding onto her father's arm should walk very slowly down the aisle so the groom and guests can enjoy how stunning she looks. True, brides have a glow about them. This also gives the photographer a chance to take pictures. There will be a rehearsal a couple of days before the wedding at the church and the bride; father of the bride; Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids will be instructed as to how slowly they should come down the aisle.
