I don't know... Maybe because Monday is the first day to the working week so the calendar begin by Monday.... Why is Saturday the last day in the English calendar?.. I have no idea about that...
French Mother's Day is on the last Sunday of May. If that Sunday is Pentecost, then Mother's Day is moved on the first Sunday of June.
The French week starts on Monday (lundi) and ends on Sunday (dimanche).
According to most historical calendars with Saturday in the weekly cycle, Saturday is the last day of the week (based upon Genesis ch.1). It is still considered the last day of the week in most modern calendars. Though there are some that show Sunday as the last day, this does not change the cycle of days of the week; and the Sunday on a calendar which has Sunday as the last day of the week is the same Sunday, and occurs at the same time, as the Sunday on a calendar showing Sunday as the first day of the week.

The French consider the week to start on Monday, but this is simply a calendar convention just as the American week starting on Sunday is a calendar convention. It does not change any dates or the work-week (which is still Monday-Friday).
