Many MLB teams use a "ball recycler" or "ball renewing" machine. There are a few manufacturers of these machines around...but at $1,500 to $2,000 per unit, they are usually too expensive for an individual to purchase.

A key word search came up with a web site www.ballrecycler.com that has a machine that "turns used baseballs into pearls". They do this by loading a small drum with 20 to 30 baseballs and a dry cleaning agent inside, then rotating the drum similar to a rock polishing machine. It's quite effective, and it looks like the baseballs are renewed to about 90 to 95% of their original condition.

Your local Baseball league probably has a ball recycler in the snack shop. Many colleges and batting cages also have baseball renewing machines like that above.

Hope that helps!

Soccer balls can be discarded in the trash. Often, they are not recyclable.
