Webster's Dictionary calls composition "arrangement into a specific proportion...in artistic form." That might sound like a lot of work, but believe it or not, you decide on composition when you draw a picture.

2 Composition is where things are placed on a paper or a canvas. A good composition can make a picture strong and interesting. A bad one can make it weak and confusing. Great art does not just happen. Often, an artist has to think a lot before he or she ever picks up a brush or a pencil.

3 The first thing an artist has to have is an idea for the project. What ideas does he or she want to express? What should the subject be? What emotion does he or she want to show?
