There are many indoor cycle trainers available today. They vary a lot in price and quality. Some recommended brands are CycleOps, Kurt Kinetic, Blackburn, Elite, and Tacx.
CycleOps sell cycling products for indoor and outdoor use. Some products include: indoor cycles, accessories, software, computers, rollers, etc. They have a variety of products to meet any cyclists needs.
A bicycle trainer is a bicycle frame fixed to an immoveable frame fastened to the floor, or a bicycle that runs on horizontal rollers, on which a person can pedal as an indoor exercise. The pedalling pressure can be adjusted, and the distance pedalled, time taken, heart beat, etc, can be recorded. Racing cyclists often warm up on a bicycle trainer before a race, and then warm down after the race - so as to avoid straining their muscles.
Velodrome
If you are training for a bike race, an indoor bike trainer could help you with stamina and keep you focused on developing your body to handle each race better.
According to Consumer Reports one bike is considered the best indoor trainer and is recommended by most trainers. It is Minoura Mag 850.
Pretty much just like an outdoor bicycle except you dont get fresh air.
The Cycle Ops website offers a wide range of cycling products. Here one will find trainers, rollers and indoor cycles. The website also offers cycling accessories including electronics.
Indoor bicycle trainers can be purchased at a variety of places. A few places to look would be "Discount Tommy," "eBay," "Amazon, " and also your local "Wal-Mart."
Depends a bit on which trainer it is, but usually you slide the rear end of the bike in between two arms rising from a floor plate. Then the axle nuts/ends of the quick-release skewers gets pinched between two cups facing inward at the top end of each of the arms.
Indoor Bicycle Races or Track Races are held in a Velodrome.
It may wear the rear tire a bit (there are special trainer tires sold) but apart from that it's entirely OK.
