The serial Pulse Coder A is a rotary shaft encoder that uses Fanuc's

proprietary serial scheme for communication. The CNC control sends

a request pulse to the encoder, and the encoder responds with a

77-bit serial string of bits that contains shaft angle and rotation

count information, and optionally a coarse absolute position

that can be used for motor commutation. At the end of the

data is a cyclical redundancy check character.
