There are several different methods to calculate safety stock. The method you choose depends on the purpose the safety stock will serve. If you are trying to cover inconsistencies within your supply chain then you may just use the variance times your demand rate: so if you have a 5 day delivery variance and a demand rate of 100 units a day, your safety stock would be 5 * 100 or 500. If you are trying to cover demand fluctuations the process will be a little more in-depth and will depend on the level coverage you wish to obtain. Lets say that over the course of a year, you find that a particular part has a demand standard deviation of 10 and you wish to have inventory 99.7 percent of the time then you will multiply 3 * 10 equal 30. Safety stock is typically done as a last resort and never should be used as a permanent corrective action. Anytime you have inventory over and above the demand, you are adding cost along your supply chain.
The biggest reason for poor stock rotation is that the employees just put the new items on the shelf without pulling the older ones to the front. All stock items should be rotated out based on the product's expiration date.

The quantity of merchandise or materials over the minimum needed to reduce the risk of running short is called a safety stock. It acts as a buffer to ensure that there are enough materials or products available to meet demand in case of unexpected fluctuations or delays in the supply chain. Maintaining a safety stock helps to prevent stockouts and disruptions in production or customer service.
Cycle stock and safety stock are both goods a company holds to supply to customers but the cycle stock is used for immediate orders while the safety stock is held to meet the fluctuations in demand. The two kinds of stock are usually stored in separate areas of a business.

A reorder level system is a method used in inventory management to determine the point at which new inventory should be ordered. It calculates the reorder level by considering factors such as lead time, demand rate, and safety stock to ensure that sufficient stock is available to meet customer demand while minimizing excess inventory. When the current inventory level drops to the reorder level, a new order is triggered to replenish stock.
