No it shouldn't, unless it's undiluted, but even then it shouldn't cause damage. The lining of my macerator is black rubber (like tyre rubber) and it is still fine after some 8 years of constant use and exposure to bleach.

That or a U bend. Its a balance between stopping the odors of the foul drain coming back up the disposal whilst maintaining a good macerator outflow. The disposal manufacturer instructions will normally name the preferred device. I chose to use a wide bottle trap. A bit more expensive but the maintenance is so easy.

I assume you are referring to the holding tank for the head. The two most likely culprits that come to mind are a blockage in the line, or a defective macerator pump. The switch that operates the pump may also be at fault, as well as the wiring to the pump and or the switch itself. To start off, check to see that you can hear the pump operate when turned on. If so, then there most likely is a blockage somewhere. This should get you started in the right direction.
