I assume you are referring to the sugar-water with which you fill a hummingbird feeder. Always, always, ALWAYS boil the water when preparing it - it will kill bacteria and will allow you to leave the feeder out longer before the mold starts to grow. Afterward, put the sugar-water in the refrigerator to cool down - NEVER feed it still warm.

Make sure to clean out and refill your feeder every 5-7 days.
