if you are talking about the little golden watch type thing then you must open the little box with the three birds on it but you will need something go to the little desk next to it (if it's locked go to Dave) and get the three little silver handle type things and put it in the three little holes but you need a combination so go over to the clock over the fire place and you will see that there are colors under the numbers so take note of the ones the same color as the birds and once you do that you will find an unopened letter from dirk to Frances (her daddy hid it) ,the thing that opens watch type thing and, the very sad journal of Frances daddy (Meryl Humber). hope you figure out the mystery good luck
