A mood ring does not actually "know" your mood. In many cases though, the color of your ring might be accurate in the way you feel. Body temperature plays a major role in the selection of color of a ring.

• When your hands are extremely cold, you might notice that your mood ring turns black. Black indicates the feeling of sad. The words "black" and "cold" both have a negative connotation, which may make the person upset
• When your hands are extremely hot, you might notice that your mood ring turns a bright green or blue-green color. Warm temperatures usually make a person feel in a better mood and so do bright colors.
