Not only will it make your dog love you if you go into the ? boxes on every walk you MIGHT get the helicopter.

But it takes a little bit of time!

Getting a helicopter in Nintendogs is pretty rare. You get it by going on walks and if your dog finds a gift in the street, you get the prize inside. It will be found in that, but it is really rare, so it will take a long time. Just go on walks a lot.

I pick a dog I left two days ago at the dog hotel, and the first walk we took after that she got the helicopter! It was near to the beach and not in a ? box, it was in a present in the street. She was wearing nothing but in my house I was using the clover clock.
