A single cylinder deadbolt can be locked and unlocked from one side using a key, while a double cylinder deadbolt requires a key to lock and unlock from both sides.
well there are a couple of options, one would be to call a locksmith and that's expensive. two you can place a hide a key somewhere only you know or your spouse knows or you could leave a key with the neighbor but who talks to there neighbors anymore, or you can get into your garage and get your drill with a 1/4 inch drill bit and depending on the lock set aming nicely on the deadbolt to either side of the key hole you drill a hole on both sides and it will back out the screw from the outside do that on both sides and if done properly you can remove the deadbolt from the outside and then use a key or screwdriver to turn the backset to unlock the deadbolt and you can also do this with the knob set as well. i hope this works for you. joe scat :-)
