This is a right bugger of a job. You need to have the trim off and for that you need the door open. And to open the door you need to have the trim off. I got a replacement door trim at a breakers before starting the job. I then cut away the old trim very carefully with shears and eventually got into the mechanism. A tiny clip had come undone. I repaired it by binding with fine copper wire and then fitted the replacement trim. That was three years ago.
