What does the spell animate do in wizards 101?

the animate spell is a death spell that only death wizards may have, it summons a minion. depending on how many pips you have is how much health the minion has. different health gives you different minions. like the ghost, skeleton, wraith, dark Sprite. so say you have 1 pip your minion eill have 100 health, 2 pips 200 health, 3 pips 300 health and so on.....
