Your dome light fixture may not be unscrewing due to a stuck or stripped screw. To fix this issue, you can try using lubricant, a rubber band for better grip, or a screw extractor tool. If these methods do not work, you may need to seek professional help to remove the fixture safely.
Take the nut off at the bottom of the light fixture by unscrewing it.

In the 1991 Toyota MR2, the dome light wires are typically located in the headliner area near the dome light fixture itself. You should find a harness that connects to the dome light, usually comprised of a power wire and a ground wire. If you're troubleshooting or replacing the dome light, access the headliner by gently removing any clips or trim around the light fixture. Always consult a wiring diagram for specific color codes and connections for your model.
On the clear cover press firmly on each side and the cover should come off. The bulb just sorta snaps in. Don't try to pry off the entire fixture or you will break off the holding studs and end up having to replace the entire dome light fixture...

Your door is not fully closing. There is a push button inside door frame that shuts off light when you shut door. If the door is not fully shutting the button will not fully compress and disengage light. You may need to tape a small piece of cardboard to door frame where button strikes frame to compensate. ALSO: Check the front dome light fixture - carefully pop-out the dome light cover and remove the two screws. There are copper strips that hold the bulb inside the fixture. On our 2001 Tracker, these strips have extra tabs on top of the fixture that stick straight up and were touching the metal roof (shorting out the lights and even giving the blinking effects at times). You can bend these down or as I did, snip them off. No problems since then.
