How does one address Sarah Ferguson?

Since her divorce (and after she lost the style Her Royal Highness due to new letters patent being issued) her name is simply "Sarah, Duchess of York" She is neither a princess, nor a duchess, rather simply a wife a a divorced British duke. I suppose Mrs. Duchess of York would therefore be appropriate, as she has no other title. Your Royal Highness would be incorrect, as she does not have this style any longer. Your Grace (the style for the wife of a duke) is not longer appropriate, as she is no longer the wife of a duke. And, she was never a princess in her own right, but by marriage.

I suppose one could call her Duchess out of courtesy, but it is kind of like calling someone by their last name. She is not The Duchess of York any longer.

"Your Grace." When she was married to Prince Andrew, Duke of York, she took his title, too. She was "Her Royal Highness, Sarah, Duchess of York." If you met her, the proper form of address would have been "Your Royal Highness" when meeting her at first, thereafter you would have addressed her as "Ma'am." As a royal duchess she carried the rank of princess. But now that she is no longer married to Prince Andrew, she lost part of her title. She is no longer a Royal Highness, just an ordinary (!) Duchess and is now "Her Grace Sarah, Duchess of York." Which makes her socially inferior to her own children! Her two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, are both Royal Highnesses. So, if you're a stickler for protocol, she would have to curtsey to them! But that's just the way it works! Go figure...
