Well, King Edward VIII was chased off the throne because he married a divorcee - he was forced to Abdicate. The newspapers, at the time, said that the issue was that the King could not be the Head of the Church of England and, at the same time, be married to a divorcee. The Reigning Sovereign of England is also the Head of the Church of England carrying the title 'Defender of the Faith', and therein lies the problem. In England, Church and State are one - not separate like in the United States.

Prince Charles, it appears, re-interprets the title as 'Defender of All Faiths' which is a punch in the stomach to Christianity. So it appears as if there are two choices in the future of England: either abandon Christianity or bring about the separation of Church and State - which will probably result in the same thing - just look at what is happening in the United States. In the end, divorce, lust and adultery and no one to put a stop to it, will destroy the Christian Church, and eventually, all peoples and governments will become atheists.

Since Prince Charles has married Camilla, the House of Winsor, and the Archbishop of the Church of England have tied themselves into knots to foil their own rules: for example, insisting that it only be a civil ceremony and not allowing Camilla to have the title, 'Queen' but only 'consort'. But in the end, if Prince Charles can get away with it, then King Edward VIII was chased off the throne illegitimately and he, and his descendants and designates have the better claim to the throne - so the current batch are all undermining their own claim to the throne, in the end. In the olden days a situation such as this would lead to civil war. When their brains migrate to below their belly-button, the common people get killed.

That is my answer anyway. So says, Bob Crawford

Does a prince become a duke or earl when he marries?

Neither, once a prince he can only be king. Actually, a duke is higher in Nobility Rank than a Prince. A prince's title does not change because he marries, however, once he marries, he is usually awarded a dukedom for his parents (King/Queen). As the ruler of this dukedom, he then becomes a duke. An Earl refers to chieftains set to rule a territory in a king's stead.
