The play deals with the events in the reign of Henry VIII which took place around 1530: the divorce from Catherine, the fall of Wolsey, the break with Rome, the marriage to Anne Boleyn (Ann Bullen, she is called in the play) and the birth of Elizabeth.
His job, pretty much, was to be King. Other things such as music, hawking, hunting, and watching all the girls go by would fall under the category of pastimes.
By the Tudor kings and queens! For a country to be ruled, it must have a monarchy of some kind. King, queen, tsar, emperor all fall under this category. The Tudors were Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward, Mary and Elizabeth.
Anne Boleyn came to court with her sister, Mary Boleyn. While she was there, Henry took notice of her. This was because she had a somewhat exoticness to her. She didn't fit into the category of the stereotypical beauty (blond with blue eyes). She was also strong willed and passionate. Basically, she was different and Henry liked that.

First of all, it must be understood that Henry VIII was driven by two things; his sexual lusts and the quest for a son - both of which would lead to Anne Boleyn's fall and Jane Seymour's rise. Because Anne had not produced male issue, Henry was extremely paranoid the Tudor dynasty would end with him. Henry then became infatuated with Jane for the quest of a son, and after only a few short years as queen, Anne was falsely accused of adultery and executed.
