Separatism is the advocacy of a single group of individuals within a larger population. Often misunderstood to be the same as secession (and secessionists can be separatists) separatism applies to any group recognized as its own entity regardless of a governmental authority. Native American tribal reservations in North America are a good example of state-sponsored separatism.
