Although King Henry quarelled with the Pope over his divorce from his first wife Katherine of Aragon, and broke the English Church away from Rome's jurisdiction, he never considered himself anything but a devout Catholic until the day he died. Indeed, so anti-Protestant was Henry that he wrote a book condemning Martin Luther for which he recieved the title 'Defender of The Faith' from the Pope, a title still held today by the reigning British Monarch. In his last Will, Henry also requested 10,000 masses be said for his soul.
