If you're willing to do a lot of work, you can put anything in there. You will have to replace the engine, radiator, transmission, position of the motor mounts...

The 2.0 liter engine is 115 HP and the vr6 model has 174 HP.
my 1998 vr6 jetta gets approximately 23 mpg in city driving with 5 speed transmission.
You can buy a Jetta VR6 for example on eBay or carsforsale. Or search a carshop near by you and asked for a Jetta VR6. I am sure you will find you dream car.
