Initially it was quite good. His 1521 publication Assertio Septem Sacramentorum ("Defence of the Seven Sacraments") earned him the title of Fidei Defensor (Defender of the Faith) from Pope Leo X.
When he decided to divorce his first wife, the relationship went sour. The Pope would not grant a divorce or annulment, so Henry broke from the Catholic church and founded the Church of England.
