American forces with help of Cuban exiles...they were trying to overthrow Communist leader Fidel Castro.
There were Letters to Nikita Khrushchev from Fidel Castro regarding defending Cuban air space and Letters to Fidel Castro from Nikita Khrushchev advising him to remain firm against US aggression but before all this happened, Nikita Khrushchev had just made a decision that would help ensure that the lives of Fidel Castro and McGeorge Bundy, the future national security adviser of a future president, John F. Kennedy, would become deeply entwined. For thirty years neither Bundy nor any other American could have known that in the midst of Castro's successful Operation, the Kremlin was planning a covert operation to assist the Cuban army at the explicit request of the Cuban leader's brother Raul.
Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro sought help from the Soviet Union primarily for economic and military support following the Cuban Revolution, which established a communist government in Cuba. The U.S. imposed trade embargoes and hostile policies against Cuba, prompting Castro to turn to the USSR for aid. The Soviet Union provided essential resources, including military equipment and financial assistance, which strengthened Castro's regime and allowed it to withstand U.S. pressure. Additionally, alignment with the Soviet bloc was part of Castro's broader ideological commitment to communism.
Prior to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion in April 1961 significantly influenced Fidel Castro's decision to seek military support from the Soviet Union. The invasion, orchestrated by the U.S. with the intent to overthrow Castro's government, heightened his fears of further American aggression. In response to this threat, Castro sought military assistance from the Soviet Union to bolster his regime and deter potential future invasions. This alignment ultimately led to the installation of Soviet missiles in Cuba, escalating tensions between the U.S. and the USSR.
Cuba.
I have heard directly from a former US Army Special Forces operative that we DID aid Castro in the early days as Batista was less and less willing to yield to US pressure. Of course Castro soon turned on us and the rest is well, history...
While studying law at the University of Havana, Castro began his political career and became a recognized figure in Cuban politics. Castro came to power as a result of the Cuban Revolution, which overthrew the US-backed dictatorship of Batista, and shortly thereafter became Prime Minister of Cuba. (Short version.)
After the revolution, Che was awarded the post of the national treasure. He lowered the Cuban Dollar as far as it can get. In other hand, he instituted women rights of death in front of the firing squads that was the only thing you could vote for there.
The president of Cuba is currently Fidel Castro. Fidel is now sick and has turned to his brother Raul Castro for help. In this very moment Fidel is guiding Raul on what to do!! Think of Raul as the vice president. P.S. Fidel has led a dictatorship for at least ten years or more! What we can find here in America is usually unreachable to Cubans. Cuba has disrupted and . destroyed little by little thanks to Fidel :(
Since the revolution, the Soviet Union had been supporting Cuba. Ernesto Guevara was given the task of being the treasurer of Cuba and the Cuban dollar dropped in a week. With the Soviet Union's support cease in 1989, Cuba has managed with the country's tourism.
The United States and Cuba. After Fidel Castro overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959, the CIA supported an attack by Cuban refugees in April, 1961, to attempt to seize control from Castro. The relatively small and unsupported operation failed after 3 days of fighting. The Kennedy administration, though involved in its planning, did not directly use US Military forces except as a diversion. After the Cuban Revolution, Castro forged strong ties with the Soviet Union which was engaged in a Cold War with the United States. The plan to invade Cuba to overthrow Castro was initiated during the Eisenhower Administration. Eisenhower appropriated more than $13M in funding. The CIA organized the operation with the help of the Mafia and various Cuban revolutionary forces. Upon his election, President Kennedy gave his consent to the long planned invasion. The failed invasion strengthened Castro's administration. As part of the 1962 agreement that ended the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US pledged not to seek the removal of Castro's government by force.
