Because the Queen appointed this title to him
His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales now holds the titles of: Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. He will be known by the senior title of HRH Duke of Cambridge.
HE is now the Duke of Cambridge an kate is the Duchess of cambridge
Prince William is now the Duke of Cambridge. He will not become the Prince of Wales until his father Prince Charles, the current Prince of Wales, becomes King. Even then, the title of Prince of Wales does not begin automatically. Prince William must have an investiture which bestows the title of Prince of Wales upon him. I hate to break it to you, but there isn't one...... the current Queen is Elizabeth II, her husband is Prince Philip. Since he is her husband by marriage and not a direct descendant to the throne, he can't be 'King'. When they first got married, his title was 'His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh'. In 1957 the Queen granted her husband the title of Prince, his title is now 'His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh'. Next in line to the throne is the Queen and Prince Philip's oldest son, Prince Charles. When the Queen dies, he will be 'King Charles'.
Yes, Prince William Is Still a PrinceYes. When someone has multiple titles, they choose one to be publicly known by. Normally this will be the highest title they own, but that's not always the case. Prince Phillip is a duke, as well as an earl, for example. Choosing to be known by a lower title does not mean you've relinquished the higher ones. Prince William's full title is His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, Baron Carrickfergus, Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Master of Arts.
They all have titles now. Princess Anne is the Princess Royal. Prince Andrew is the Duke of York. And Prince Edward is the Duke of Wessex. This likely would not change because Charles would be succeeded by his son William as heir to the British throne.
Prince Williams adopted the surname Wales whilst at college, so their surname would be Wales. However, the Queen conferred upon them the titles of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, so that will be the names by which they will be known, until the current profile of the Royals changes.
The title of Duke of Bohemia is historically associated with the rulers of the Kingdom of Bohemia, which is now part of the Czech Republic. The last person to hold the title in a recognized capacity was Prince Friedrich, Duke of Bohemia, in the 19th century. However, the title is largely ceremonial today, and there is no officially recognized 19th Duke of Bohemia in contemporary times. The historical dukes were part of a lineage that has since evolved into modern political structures.
